AdvancedWhat's the difference between a regional and a zonal resource in GCP, and why does it matter for availability?
A zonal resource (like a single Compute Engine VM or a zonal Persistent Disk) lives in one specific zone and goes down if that zone has an outage. A regional resource (like a regional Persistent Disk, or a Managed Instance Group spanning zones) is replicated or distributed across multiple zones in a region, surviving a single zone failure — the tradeoff is usually cost and setup complexity.
BeginnerWhat's the difference between Cloud Storage and Persistent Disk?
Cloud Storage is object storage accessed via API/SDK — files, backups, static content, reachable from anywhere. Persistent Disk is block storage attached to one specific Compute Engine VM, behaving like a traditional local hard drive.
IntermediateA batch script processing many GCP resources starts getting '429 Too Many Requests' errors. What should you do?
Implement exponential backoff with jitter on retries instead of retrying immediately or in a tight loop, which makes rate limiting worse — most GCP client libraries support this natively. Also check whether the API offers a batch endpoint to cut the total number of calls instead of one call per resource.
Learn GCP in depth, free to start
A 20-page guide that goes past the comparison tables — a real Cloud Run deployment, the CPU-throttling trap that silently breaks background workers, and the IAM split between who can call a service and what it can do once called. The first page is free for everyone.

Practice GCP for real, no account needed
Lock down a Cloud Run deploy running under a broad roles/editor service account, diagnose a 403 from a missing invoker binding, or work a failed deploy in a simulated terminal — all before you touch a real project.
GCP DevOps interview FAQ
What GCP services should a DevOps engineer know for interviews?
Cloud Run or GKE, Cloud Build, IAM and service accounts, VPC and Serverless VPC Access, Cloud SQL/Firestore, and Cloud Monitoring/Logging. Interviewers care more about how these fit into a real deployment than about memorizing every product Google Cloud offers.
Do I need a Google Cloud certification to get a DevOps job?
No, but the Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud DevOps Engineer certification can help past an initial resume screen. It's not a substitute for being able to explain a real deployment or debug why a Cloud Run service won't start in an interview.
What's the GCP equivalent of AWS's ECS or Azure's Container Apps?
Cloud Run for serverless containers (closest to Azure Container Apps) and GKE for full Kubernetes (closest to AWS EKS or Azure AKS). Most DevOps roles on GCP lean on Cloud Run first, since it needs far less setup than running a cluster.
How do I practice GCP without running up a bill?
Work through fix-the-config exercises and simulated-terminal incidents graded on real gcloud CLI/IAM text first — they teach the same reasoning (least-privilege service accounts, reading a failed deploy) without touching a real project or paying for anything.
